Calibration of simulation parameters for wind erosion gas-solid two-phase flow in arid and semiarid soils

ABSTRACT To construct a coupled simulation model of soil wind erosion and two-phase flow in arid semiarid regions, the proper contact parameters discrete element are obtained based on angle repose (AoR) calibration test. The is established by combining computational fluid dynamics. response value speed sand initiation used to verify model’s accuracy. Due characteristics soils, this paper uses Hertz-Mindlin with JKR EDEM software calibrate physical tests designs Plackett-Burman, steepest climb, Box-Behnken according Design-Expert obtain AoR second-order regression. With 33.52° as target, best combination obtained: soil-soil collision recovery 0.64, soil-steel static friction coefficient 0.31, surface energy 3.302 J m-2. Finally, using calibrated threshold velocity value, wind-sand air-solid test conducted ANSYS Fluent EDEM, relative error between starting recorded high-speed camera tunnel shown calculated be 8.7%, met requirements simulation.
